 Are you a young director or writer who wants to study film making at SAE? Well we want to see your awesome work. The Vision Feast Film Festival is proud to announce its new partnership with SAE Creative Media Institute to inspire the next generation of New Zealand’s FilmMakers.

There are 2 prizes up for grabs, totaling a combined worth of $6000. NZ Secondary School contestants can be in the running to win a scholarship worth $3,000 (per category) towards their SAE fees when they apply to study at SAE

  • Best New Zealand Secondary School Director Award - NZD $3,000 SAE Scholarship to be allocated to the Winner 

  • Best New Zealand Secondary School Writer Award - NZD $3,000 SAE Scholarship to be allocated to the Winner

Projects can be made specifically for the festival awards or they can be projects already created by the individual or team*.   • Only New Zealand secondary school students can enter -  Students can be a domestic or international student, so long as they completed secondary school study in New Zealand and can provide sufficient evidence.

  • Entrants must be 15 years old with permission from a parent or guardian or 18+ to apply for SAE

  • Entrants must meet course entry requirements set by SAE - Minimum 17 years of age by the time of admission to a course. Completion of at least NCEA Level 2, from a New Zealand secondary school or equivalent.

  • The Best New Zealand Secondary School Director Award is allocated to the Director of the project 

  • The  Best New Zealand Secondary School Writer Award is allocated to the Writer of the project 

  • The Scholarship can be shared across a team, so long as the total does not exceed the scholarship amount of $3000.

  • Scholarships can not be redeemed for cash.

  • Cannot be used in conjunction with Fees Free Scheme. If a student is eligible for Fees Free, the scholarship can be redeemed in their 2nd year of study.

  • Scholarship does not guarantee entry into a specific intake, programme or level. Application must be submitted as per SAE’s entry criteria. Scholarship will be awarded only after an application has been approved. 

  • *Projects can be made specifically for the festival or they can be projects already created by the individual or team. Projects must have been completed after 1/1/2022

  • SAE Scholarships awarded are for study at the Auckland city campus only.

  • Scholarships are for the the SAE film courses only

  • Refunds are not available once submitted as per Film Freeway’s rules. You may however withdraw the entry should you no longer wish to be in the competition.

  • Entries can be entered in conjunction with Vision Feast discount code promotions.

  • If music is used you must have copyright clearances and permissions to use it

  • Cost of entry per project is $10 USD.

  • Individuals or teams can enter the Vision Feast Film Festival more than once - each entry must be paid for individually.

  • You cannot enter work you do not have the rights or permission to enter. It must be you or your team’s work.


Category Terms:

 
 
  • Film must be over 20seconds long and under 15mins long - Including Credits.

  • Films can be made specifically for the festival or they can be projects already created by the individual or team. Projects must have been completed after 1/1/2022

  • Films can be any genre or style, live action, drama, experimental, music videos, 3D, stop motion, 2d animation, web media etc

  • All projects must be entered through the Vision Feast Film Freeway Entry System found at: https://filmfreeway.com/TheVisionFeast

  • For information about SAE’s courses in relation to the awards click here

  • Time limit for redemption of the prize is 3 years (from 1/7/23)


 
 
  • Scripts must be under 30 pages long. You can write any genre and about any topic

  • Scripts must be formatted correctly. There are lots of free script writing softwares available online. 

  • Scripts should be delivered in a PDF format

  • Scripts must be original and cannot be adapted from works of which the writer does not have the rights of adaptation. 

  • More than one writer can work on the script. The prize can be split between the team or an agreed person must be allocated to the prize.

More Info:

  • Make sure to enter the correct categories as listed in entry column on film freeway

  • 6 projects will be nominated per category and 1 winner will be announced per category

  • Winners will be announced at our 2023 event live and on social media.

  • Nominees and Winners will have their work hosted on our website..

  • Projects will be judged by a panel consisting of Industry and SAE Professionals
